NEW HAVEN POLICE CLOSE NOVEMBER DOUBLE SHOOTING CASE AND PARTICIPATE IN ARREST OF NY FUGITIVE WANTED FOR MURDER

(1/7/2009) NEW HAVEN- New Haven Police Officers along with other members of the U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force arrested 38-year-old Arthur Gomez, a New York resident wanted for 2nd degree murder charges in the Bronx. The Task Force received information through their investigation that Gomez was staying at a residence on Victory Street in New Haven. On Monday, the Task Force apprehended Gomez and turned him over to New York City Police for extradition.

Also on Monday, New Haven Police arrested 19-year-old Cedric Goodwin who was wanted on two counts of assault 1st, robbery 1st and larceny 2nd for an incident that took place on November 1, 2008 where two individuals were shot in their vehicles while at a traffic light at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Hamilton Street. The four individuals who were in the car during the incident state that while at the stoplight, a man, identified as Goodwin, entered the rear of their vehicle demanding their money. Following an altercation between two of the men in the vehicle and Goodwin, the suspect shot at the two victims striking one in the head and the other in the back. The two shooting victims, Brandon Nalle and Brendan Scanlon, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries as a result of this incident.

The New Haven Police Department’s investigation into this case led officers to Goodwin who was successfully apprehended on Monday.
